The Boykin Spaniel is a breed of hunting dog well known throughout the Southeastern United States. The Boykin is the state dog of South Carolina. This special breed was delveloped by hunters in the early 1900's and one man in particular L.W."Whit" Boykin in Boykin, SC- a small town outside of Camden, S.C. Initially bred for hunting wild turkeys and ducks in the Wateree River swamps of South Carolina, the Boykin is also famed for its keen ability to retrieve doves and other wild birds in the field. Known for their handsome golden-brown locks and yellow "Bird of Prey" eye color, the Boykin is one the most handsome of the Spaniel blood lines. Exuberant, confident, and outgoing, Boykins make a delightful pet and hunting companion.
